Spring 2024 Accounting Department Graduation Celebration Event Details

Date: Friday, May 17th, 2024

Time: 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (PDT); Rehearsal for Graduating Students: Between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM (PDT); Doors Open for Guests: 4:30 PM (PDT)

Location: Student Life Event Center (SLEC), Annex I, 1 North State Drive, San Francisco, CA 94132

Attire: Academic Regalia preferred; Semi-Formal preferred

• Additional Information pertaining to RSVP for Graduating Students and Sign-Up Sheet for Volunteers will be sent via email the week of April 14th.

• Additional Information pertaining to Guests will be announced the week of April 21st.

FAQS and Ceremony Etiquette

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GRADUATION?

Students who expect to graduate in Fall 2023, Winter 2024, Spring 2024, or Summer 2024 are eligible to participate in the celebration.

If you are not eligible but still want to request to participate in the celebration, please contact asosfsugraduation.sfsuaso@gmail.com. Approval of participation will be based on capacity, units completed and reasoning. Decisions will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. 

WHAT DO I WEAR TO THE GRADUATION?

Regalia or semi-formal is preferred. Cap & gown, can be rented from the SFSU Bookstore. Please contact the Bookstore's Business Office (415) 338-2023 for more information.

Family and friends of the graduating student should dress comfortably.

DO I NEED TICKETS FOR THE GRADUATION? 

Graduating students, faculty, and volunteers do not need to purchase a ticket.

Family and friends: tickets are required for admission to the Accounting Department commencement ceremony. 

DO I NEED A TICKET FOR A CHILD OR BABY?

If the child or baby will need to occupy a seat of their own, you will need to obtain a ticket. If the child or baby will remain on a parent's lap for the entire duration of the celebration, they will not need a ticket. 

WILL I RECEIVE MY DIPLOMA AT THE GRADUATION?

No, Graduating Students will not receive their diplomas at the graduation celebration. However, Graduating Students will receive commemorative certificates, which serve as a memento of their time in the Accounting Department.

CAN I LEAVE EARLY?

We ask that all graduates remain seated throughout the duration of the celebration and that guests do not encourage their graduates to leave prior to the conclusion of the celebration. We understand that the celebration can be lengthy, but every single graduate has deserved the right to be celebrated. It is disrespectful to other graduates and their guests, as well as to the staff and University administration who have worked very hard in making the Accounting Graduation Celebration a special occasion, to have graduates and their guests leave early.
